Nintendo Switch Holiday Experience

3 min read

Nintendo is hosting an event across multiple malls and shopping centers to allow everyone, adults and kids, the opportunity to preview products and games that Nintendo offers before making that gift purchase. Not sure if you’ll like the new Super Mario Party? No problem, give it a try! Been itching to get your hands on some Nintendo Labo? Go test it out! This is also an opportunity to try out Pokemon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! (as of its release date on November 16th 2018) and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. One event was not terribly far away, so I jumped on the opportunity to get a hands on experience with the new title in the Smash series.

After two hours driving, one hour of walking around to find the Nintendo display, and forty-five minutes of waiting in line, I jumped into battle with my main, Ganondorf, against King K Rool, Wii Fit Trainer, and Bowser. We played using hardwired Nintendo Switch pro controllers, which are a bit heavy. The game played smooth, flowing from one attack to the next with ease. The graphics are beautiful, colorful, and crisp. This might sound like an obvious suggestion but I recommend playing on the highest quality TV for best results. I do not know the televisions used in the set up but the definition and vibrancy was astounding, even breath taking. Super Smash Bros. has never been so jaw-droppingly beautiful.

I have been a fan of Super Smash Bros. since N64 and I’m happy to say the improvements are truly adding up. From only a three minute experience, I can tell you even the most minor adjustments have made an impact. Powerful characters and strong smash attacks seemed to be more difficult to interrupt than before, especially with a standard attack. King K Rool packed a punch and overpowered Ganondorf quite often. At the same time, that super, powerful punch that Ganondorf needs time to charge is just as difficult to interrupt.

This was only a sample, leaving me wanting more. I was not disappointed and if a quick demo left me stunned then I can only imagine how great the game is going to be when I can pour hours of my life into unlocking characters and the story mode, World of Light. I hope you will take advantage of this Nintendo Switch Holiday Experience if any of the locations are near you. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Overcooked 2, Super Mario Party, and Just Dance 2019 are all available to play for free. If you want to play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, just stand in line.
